month for now until someone comes up with any other suggestions.
Watch for the email reminders and let me know if you have any
questions or suggestions.
We welcome you to come out and spend a couple
of hours
just eating, chatting, visiting,
reminiscing about the good ole’ days at CHHS
and having fun together with your 60's classmates.
We just hit our 47th year since our graduation
and our 50th year reunion will be upon us quicker than you can
imagine. So come out and help us with our early planning of
the big 50th reunion of the Class of 1964.
Each month, we always have a great time and
seem to have someone new each month. Remember, our get-together is
always open to alumni, spouse, significant others and friends.
We want to continue finding more classmates
and gathering up-to-date contact information so we can stay in
touch. We realize the 50th reunion will not be until
2014 but it will be here sooner than we think.
We do not want
anyone to miss out on the monthly gatherings and especially not the
50th year class reunion.
If you need more information about upcoming
events or if you have found a missing member of the Class of 1964,
please let us know how to contact them.

Great News!!!
THE LITTLE INDIAN
MASCOT WILL BE MOVED BUT PRESERVED!
Hello Everyone – Just a few days after the CHHS Auditorium email
was sent, Gary Wilcox ’63, Lester Howard ’63 and James “Cookie” Cook
’63 were instrumental in helping me find out that the little Redskin
at the entryway will be preserved after all. Although it is being
removed from the main entrance, the Principal said they have hired a
restoration company to remove and restore and preserve the little
Indian for the “Memories” room that is being built on the first
floor during the MAPS restoration project.
After
the busy Valentine’s holiday, Lester Howard, Howard Brothers
Florists, is going to get in touch with David Sellers, Publisher of
the “Capitol Hill Beacon” for more information about the history of
the Little Indian and when it was placed in the entryway.

CHHS Newly Renovated
Auditorium
(OKC Maps for Kids Project)
These notes are from Mike Shores with pictures and comments
inserted by Frances – I think his memories speak for all of us.
Here are
just a few of my thoughts from our tour of the CHHS Auditorium.
After our
monthly Monday luncheon at the "Grill on the Hill", Frances
Louderback had arranged for us to take a tour of the remodeled
auditorium.
What an
exciting day for all of us when we first met "at the tree" by the
Field House and was then able to once again walk through the
hallowed halls of CHHS, our alma-mater. It was as if turning the
clock back and needing to go to your locker or hear yourself saying
"Oh no, I'm late for class again". You see yourself waving at a
friend in the hall or almost running up and down the stairs. You
could hear the lockers opening and slamming shut. Then you realize,
it's been 47 years and it's almost as if it was yesterday.

The Indian
Mascot is still in the main entrance floor and even with a crack or
two it is still just as fresh and honored as it was when we first
laid eyes on it and we never even thought about walking on it. To
us it was important and it meant something to us. Today, however,
times have changed and there are some differences. The first thing
I noticed was the front entrance had a walk-thru metal detector
greeting you and then someone just walked across the mascot in the
floor. Times have changed, but our memories are just as fresh
today. Although the Little Redskin mascot has a few cracks running
through it, he otherwise is still in great shape. The school plans
to remove (chip-away or otherwise destroy) our "mosaic marble-chips
in epoxy" mascot design in the floor with no immediate plans to
preserve it or take care in removing it. Anyone wishing to view it
one more time should make arrangements to stop by and see it for
yourself, take pictures and if possible voice your concern over them
removing it for "ethical" reasons. Yes, times have changed and this
is one area it has changed.
This panoramic picture
was taken from the balcony.
The curtains are deep maroon. The stage floor is still original.
The new seats are black and the walkways are carpeted, the floor is
tile.
I
wish the brilliant colors showed up.
The
auditorium has been remodeled and has taken on a new and fresh
look. A new coat of paint, good speakers hanging from the ceiling
and under the mezzanine overhang at the back and new padded seats.
The stage has even taken on a whole new look. When during
remodeling, paneling was removed from all around the front top and
sides of the opening of the stage. What was found were beautiful
carvings and designs which have been beautifully painted.

Crews discovered
decorative pieces when they began the renovation. This is a
close-up of the detailed art work that goes all the way around the
stage. It had been covered with a wall for years. You can see on the
floor where the wall had been placed around the original art décor
covering it up for untold years.

This is a close up of
the art décor around the doors leading to the back stage area.
Hopefully,
you can tell by the photos just how many improvements have been made
in the auditorium and the stage area. I felt like I was in school
again when I meandered up on the stage and walked around to the
backstage. Then I sat down in one of the new seats and looked up to
see the choir and band putting on a concert. I then saw myself
standing in my choir position while putting on a concert and one of
the "Extravaganza's". I then realized it was just "memories". I
think everyone who went were all very amazed at how much difference
the improvements have made in the auditorium but I was also a bit
teary eyed remembering the good times and good friends from our
schools days.

This panoramic picture was taken from the stage showing the new
balcony.

When I went back to take pictures from the balcony, this class was
practicing on stage
for an upcoming performance.
One thing I noticed about the seating was the solid end pieces on
the rows seemed to be identical to my CHHS chair that I have here at
home. I thought how great for them to replicate the ends. I asked
about it and found that they ARE the same ends. They are made of
iron so they refurbished and reused them.

Here is a picture of my old one and the “refurbished” ones.
I want to
thank Frances Louderback for setting up this trip to CHHS to see the
remodeled auditorium. You just never know what we may be doing or
have planned at our next monthly Monday or Tuesday Get-Together's.
Please come out and enjoy good food while reminiscing with your
classmates about our good days at CHHS and catching up on old times.

45th Year Reunion of the Class of 1964
Post Reunion Thoughts
Oh what a wonderful time we had. Friday night
with Mel Hardeman conducting a trivia contest and Barbara (Cebulesky)
Blanton interviewing several classmates to find out what they
have been doing over the last 45 years. Friday night was held
at the FOP building. The long tables were setup with white and
maroon table cloths and there was an abundance of snacks and
sweets to go around. Saturday night was held at the elegant
Sportsman's Country Club. The table settings and food was
absolutely great. Mike Mullings son McClaine and his friend
Sean were the DJ's for the evening. It was great to see lots of
people out on the dance floor swinging to the sounds of the 50's
& 60's, which continues to be some of the best music of all
times. Mel Hardeman conducted more trivia contest and Carolyn
(Clayton) Felder interviewed more classmates.
As the days go on we plan to have several people
writing in to tell about the good time they had at the reunion.
It was great to see so many classmates who were unable to make
it to the 40th reunion. Our thanks also goes to Frances for
taking the lead in putting together display posters with photos
of our deceased classmates, Jackson Jr. High photos, grade
school classroom photos and other memorabilia graciously
submitted from several of our classmates.
This reunion would never have come to being
without the financial support and many, many hours of personal
time and effort shared by dedicated classmates. We want to
thank everyone who had a part in planning and organizing the
activities, setting up and decorating the rooms so that we all
could enjoy such wonderful evenings.
We want to thank Paul Pappas for designing and
publishing the beautiful reunion handouts.
Our thanks goes out to Frances (Fleming)
Louderback for making the nametags with the senior photo from
the yearbook. Without the nametags we would not have been able
to recognize many of the classmates. I know it seems impossible
but many of us have changed over the last 45 years.
If you have comments or memories about the
reunion or the DVD you would like to share with all of us,
please send an email to Mike Shores at
mikeshores@cox.net and
we will try to post some of them on the website. We will be
posting several photos and some video from the reunion as soon
as possible.
